According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the leading cause of death for people aged 2-34 is due to vehicular accidents. Looking deeper, why this happens, we can derive the top causes of vehicular accidents.
The first major cause of accidents is due to driver’s distraction that covers 25-50% of all motor accidents. Some of these are using mobile phones while driving, arguing with someone inside the car, looking at the scenery, to name a few. It is therefore important to always keep your eye on the road and refrain from doing extra activities while driving.
Driver fatigue is another major cause for some drivers who are having long trips and for those who still drive despite staying up late or a long day of work. To avoid this, it is advisable to get a good night sleep or at least ample rest before driving. For long trips, taking a break every after two hours of driving could let you regain strength and therefore minimize fatigue.
Drunk driving is also one of the top reasons. Obviously, drunk drivers have less awareness of what’s really going on around them. Drunk drivers have less attention on the road, thus could cause an accident. Several laws on different places are already implemented to address this concern.
Prevention is better than cure, so it is important that you avoid things that could cause you so much trouble or even your life and the lives of others.
