Motorbike insurance is a type of insurance purchased for motorcycle vehicles. The primary purpose of purchasing motorbike insurance is to protect bikers from losses due to damages obtained in motorcycle accidents. Also in some cases, motorbike insurance can be purchased as a guarantee that can be used in instances when service is needed due to vehicular malfunction.

Oftentimes, motorbike insurance is subject to much higher insurance premiums just like sports cars and sports utility vehicles due to its extensive in use in off road driving. The reason for this is that off road driving entails a much higher risk of accidents compared with regular traffic driving. And also, motorbike insurance has relatively high personal injury insurance premiums because there is a much greater risk that a biker will be gravely injured or, worse experience fatal injuries, upon accidents compared with sports cars and sports utility vehicles.

However, motorbike liability insurance premiums is very much lower than sports cars and sports utility vehicles because of its slim chance of causing major destruction to other vehicles or properties.

Since there is an increasing awareness regarding safe motorbike driving, bikers take one notch by availing comprehensive motorbike insurance. In line with that, some governments require purchase of motorbike insurance before a proper license is approved to the motorbike owner.
